Take a Stitch Tuesday 2012 Challenge Information page

I am no longer adding names to this challenge but you can join in each week.
It will be up to participants to leave a comment with their correct web addy

What is TAST?
Take a Stitch Tuesday is a challenge I will run in 2012. Every Tuesday I will post a stitch and the challenge is to work a sample.
If you are learning embroidery the challenge will be to learn the stitch. If you are experienced the challenge is to push the stitch creatively.
Once you have worked a sample, you will need to photograph it and put it online at your blog, flickr or stitchin fingers page then swing back to the page the challenge stitch is presented on and leave a comment with your web address. People will visit the comments, and clicking on the link will visit you to see what you have done.

I have run TAST twice before. The stitches will not appear in the same order or necessarily all be the same.

Please link back to Pin Tangle.

Please link back to Pintangle, so that people hear about it. Help spread the word and do it as often as people often miss hearing about it first time around!

How do I know where to link?

On this blog if you click on the title of the page you will open the post on a page of its own and you can copy the web address in the top bar.

When you leave a comment include your full web address not just a flickr name or stitchin fingers name.

On stitchin fingers  go to your "my page" and copy and paste the web address from the address bar at the top of your browser window.

On Flickr go to your photostream page and copy and paste the web address from the address bar at the top of your browser window.

When does it start?
January 3rd.

What is this challenge about?
Each Tuesday I will post a challenge stitch. The idea is that you work a sample, experiment a bit. Next, photograph your sample, and put it on the web so visitors can share. Then return to Pintangle to leave a comment to tell everyone where they can see your sample.

What does it Cost?

The challenge is free.

Are beginners welcome?

All skill levels are welcome

So I have to visit your blog each Tuesday?

Yes the challenge is open and public. You can have everything I write on my blog delivered daily to your email inbox. If you find this an easier way to keep in touch, please sign up. The sign up button is in the side bar. Something new is published daily.

How come last time Tuesday was Monday?

I live in Australia and will publish each Tuesday morning in Australia. For many people this will mean they see it appear on Monday evening. Australia crosses the International date line earlier that is all.

I dont have a blog or flickr site can I join?

Yes you can join. If you dont have a blog, flickr account or stitching fingers page you are more than welcome to join. This blog is open and published online for all to read. All you need to do it visit each Tuesday and stitch along.

However, since half the fun is about sharing and seeing what others stitch, I encourage you to start a flickr site, or join stitchin fingers or start a blog.

The easiest thing is to do is to join Stitchin fingers. It is free and I run it. You can post photos, and there is a community of people who are only too willing to help you if you need it. Remember to visit our sponsors because without them we would have no network.

Can I do some stitches and not others?
Yes If you want to swing in and out of the challenge as a busy life dictates that is fine.

What do I stitch on?

Fabric ... no seriously you can stitch on anything you choose. I usually use a 25 cnt or 27 cnt even weave linen but if you look at my band sampler I not only use linen but I also use Aida, and even regular dressmaking fabrics. I have a more detailed post about my band sampler and the fabrics I used.

Do I have to stitch a sampler?

No you can stitch on anything. Some people are starting a band sampler but it is definitely not a must!

What is the Project?

There is not particular project at all. The idea is experiment with stitches. They can be small samples on scraps of fabric or doodle cloths. Some people are going to make a band sampler, others are making fabric books, others working the challenge stitches on a crazy quilt block or project, while others are going to use fabric postcards, and ATCs (Artist Trading Cards).  The challenge is to work the stitch. The format or project is totally up to you.

Do I have to write my post in English?

No. Today we have the marvellous tool of Google Translate. English readers can translate what you write using it.

Do we have a blog badge?

Yes we have a badge. You may use the badge to the left (right click and save the image to your desktop) It was a piece stitched by stitchin fingers member Annet, who also has a blog Fat Quarter. Annet took the previous TAST challenge and made a fabric book of samples this is the cover and she has kindly allowed the use of her image as the TAST 2012 logo. Visit her site for full details.

Will you re-run TIF (Take it Further)

For folks who are a bit more experienced with a needle I will be encouraging people to not only take a stitch and work a simple sample but to take it further and push it creatively. For experienced stitchers this will be a challenge in itself.

Other groups and networks
You can if you wish also share your explorations  on stitchin fingers TAST group the flickr TAST site and on the Facebook TAST 2012 group

If you tried to register are not on the list.

I am no longer adding names to this list but feel free to join in (read the first section of this article for details) .

Hi Sharon B! I would like to join the Tuesday Stitch challenge. I am still new to CQ and embroidery in general but I find I need some incentive to keep working on the embroidery stitches. This will help me build a library of stitches...Thanks, Judy (I don't know if I have a page on Stitchin' fingers, but I believe I am a member)
