Take a Stitch Tuesday Week 26

I am doing a little happy dance around the kitchen this morning. Can you hear me gracefully moving from foot to foot? OK so I am clod hoppering about bounding around the place like a mob of kangaroos rather than gracefully leaping like a ballerina. Now don’t say mean things or I will start to sing – and you don’t want that it’s just too painful. Can you guess why? I can hear you scratch your head and puzzle… I will put you out of your agony…We are mid way through the Take a Stitch Tuesday Challenge !!!

OK I will stop all this nonsense and get on with it. So for this week – the 26th week the challenge stitch is Half Chevron.

Like chevron you can do simply oodles with this stitch particularly if you like stacking row upon row to create patterns. Beads can be added, ribbons or thread can be laced through the stitch and you are really only limited by your imagination.

You can work this stitch back to back or simply swing individual half chevrons back to back and stepping them to form patterns. I have worked a simple pattern of a single stitch but you can work them in sets of two or three etc. If you work them row upon row they form patterns and if you step the rows they form other patterns again.

The stitch can be worked on a curve and when you swing them from side to side even more interesting things happen.

These are single half chevron stitches that have been turned on their side. Once again it is easy to add beads to this formation or use it for couching. You can also work a line like this on a curve.

Finally you can work this stitch in a square which is effective as a little motif that can be repeated to build up patterns - it is great fun to do so and add beads, sequins or other stitches to enhance it further.

Don't forget that my latest online class Sumptuous surfaces will start July 11th. (Follow the link for more information.) If you have been enjoying the challenge you may also enjoy learning how to design as well!

This looks amazing! It looks like it combines the cretan stitch and the chevron.

I really like the orderly patterns you show, especially the one in the stich dictionary, but I decided to do curves instead.

Half-Cretan was fun and is so neat with Aida cloth.
I hope the last 24 weeks are slower than the first 26 or TAST will be finished too soon.

Had a go at this stitch another one I hadn't seen befor (though I did know chevron stitch already) so it made me think a bit about the stitch structure. Unusualy for me I also did some sketching of the possible patterns the stitch might make. The stitch sample is up on my flicker account and on the group flicker

I started my long and short stitch piece. I haven't gotten very far jet but to make up for that I try to show the complete design process. There will be more postings about that piece as I go. It is here:

I was too late to join in the monthly beading challenge, but perhaps it is just as well as my life has got very busy.

Here are my samples of Long and Short stitch and Half Chevron stitch. Thank You, Sharon! I learned to make the Long and Short stitch only thanks to this challenge, it seemd to be impossible to me to make it correctly, but I managed!

My half chevron samples are posted on my blog: www.readingandstitchinginil.com. I used up left over perle cotton to experiment on 18 count canvas and then tried free embroidery on a piece of Silkweavers dyded linen.

Sharon, congratulations for getting halfway through this challenge already, I really appreciate the effort it takes to do such a thing persistently every week, over such a long time. Thank you!

Here's my half chevron sample. I'm afraid I've skipped long and short for the moment but it was either that or never catch up! http://faffingabout.blogspot.com/2007/07/tast-half-chevron-stitch.html
