A Crochet Coral Reef
Don't miss out taking a look at the Crochet Coral Reef project. The Institute For Figuring is crocheting a coral reef as a homage to The Great Barrier Reef which is under threat from global warming and agricultural pollutants. They describe the project as "a woolly celebration of the intersection of higher geometry and feminine handicraft". This is something not to be missed if you are at all interested in freeform crochet or hyperbolic crochet. Hyperbolic crochet as a technique was developed by mathematician Daina Taimina.
While you are there do check out the rest of the site and the information about hyperbolic crochet which the Institute For Figuring researches, documents and exhibits. Be warned however if you browse the whole site your brain will go into meltdown – mine did!

Sharon - thanks so much for posting this wonderful site. Not only is the crochet amazing but the scientific, environmental and mathematical information is fascinating. I've really enjoyed it!
Isn't it just amazing! I was entranced and spent forever on their site. :-)
My head is throbbing and I'm about to have a metaphysical breakdown. It's doubtful I can ever scrumble again without angst.
