Take a Stitch Tuesday Week 27

I know many people have been either dreading or waiting impatiently for this weeks stitch in the Take a Stitch Tuesday Challenge

I won’t tease or keep you in agony as this week the challenge stitch is Bullion knot.

Bullion knots can be arranged in all sorts of ways to create textured motifs in traditional embroidery or if you enjoy contemporary work added to highly textured stitches and scattered across an area they are great fun.

A chain stitch worked around the edge of bullion knot will add another dimension to the stitch.

The body of this praying mantis was worked in bullion knots

Or as I have said there are plenty of opportunities to use bullions in contemporary embroidery

If you have problems with Bullions use a milliners needle as a milliners needle is the same diameter from point to eye and this means the thread will slide along the needle easily also use a hoop as this will help with any tension problems.

Many people wrap the bullion knot around the needle too tight. Wrap with ease by this I mean don't have the warps so loose they are floppy but you should be able to slide the wraps up and down the needle easily. As you the thread through, pinch the wraps on the needle and twist them a little in the direction of the wrap, this helps them slide along the needle. When you have taken the needle through to the back but not yet pulled the stitch tight, use the needle over smooth the wraps by sliding it under the bullion and rub it up and down a few times. Some people describe this action as "tickling the tummy" of your bullion. When the wraps are smooth pull on you thread to flatten the stitch.

I can hardly wait for the Sumptuous Surfaces class to start. I was like this as a kid, when it was almost time for school. And, now I have my supply list. I could have stitches with what I have, but I had to go shopping. It is always nice to have a few new things for school.

I've been admiring the TAST stitches all along, although I haven't participated. I think I may jump in at the half way point and see what I can do.

Great Marci - jump in the water is fine and the challenge is really very flexible

I missed a couple of weeks, but the bullion is on my blog. I'll catch up the ones I missed at a later date. Thanks again Sharon!

Yay! I did it :) I've decided that since I've missed so much I'm going to attempt to do two past stitches as well as the current month. My first attempt is up on my blog - http://stitchchick.com/2007/handemb/tast/oh-yeah-much-stitchy-goodness/

I tried to do a few different things with the bullion knot, and I used my TAST stitch book to decide on some CQ seam treatments. What a great resource you have helped us create Sharon.

I agree with Margaret about the great rsource you are creating for us.
I have never been very happy with bullion stitch but had fun playing with it. I decided to make a small picture of this one.

Oh Sharon, this was not a good week for stitching for me .... I had a terrible time with the bullion stitch and I think it had to do with not making a good choice in thread or fabric. But then that is what experimenting is all about. I will work on this stitch and you can see my attempt on my blog here:

Sharon, I've posted my bullion & shaft stitch together. The bullion gave me fits. But I am still working through it. I love the shaft stitch, I use that often, it gives a nice showing.

I am a very long way behind with TAST. I have just posted my bullion sampler. This was a difficult stitch for me but I stuck at it until I thought the sampler was complete.
