Take a Stitch Tuesday
We have an interesting stitch this week for the Take a Stitch Tuesday Challenge as this week I have chosen Cast on stitch stitch.
It is a fantastic if time consuming stitch but worth the effort as it really produces a 3D element to a piece as it forms little loops that sit proud against the background fabric.
If you think of the stitch as a unit that can be used to combine with other units it becomes very interesting indeed.
You can combine them to make floral motifs such as roses, carnations, daisies and the like. The image below is of a row of pansies.
However you can also use them clustered with other textured stitches in contemporary embroidery.
I hope you enjoy this stitch as I do! Well that’s it for this week remember to swing by and leave a comment here so that people can follow the link and see what you have done and there is a Take a stitch Tuesday flickr group which you can browse

This is one of my favorite stitches, too. You are right, it is time consuming, but it really isn't hard for even a beginner to get right. Thanks for an easy week!
What a fun stitch! thanks

A good stitch Sharon and easy to do. I look forward to seeing what others have come up with.
I have blogged my lot. I didn't sew as many as there appears - just tinkered with one lot.
I guess you will be relieved when the last week is over, as it is time taking for you but I will miss it.

hi all,
my cast on stitch is up at http://amovablefeast.blogspot.com
although i didn't work on variations it was a good one to get acquainted with.

I didn't do a lot of variations with the Cast-On Stitch but did use two different thread sizes. I think I would have had better results if I'd used heavier thread. You can see what I did here:

I had never done this stitch before but played around a bit and i think I did it correctly. on my blog

I relly enjoyed cast on stitch. I included it with bullion stitch, buttonhole wheels and french knots on my rocky textures inspired piece.

At last I have some things to post
http://flickr.com/photos/helenad/1062766079/ sheaf stitch
http://flickr.com/photos/helenad/1062766131 arrowhead stitch
http://flickr.com/photos/helenad/1062766151 buttonhole wheel and cast-on stitches. I have also put them on the group site ,
I had some fun making background fabric with the embelisher for two of the samples. My first bits of embellisher fabric! I did find cast-on stitch quite hard to do and am very impressed with other peoples efforts with this stitch.
