Blog flog and chat

A big thanks goes out to everyone for spreading the word on my blog move. I will answer a few questions that have arisen in comments first then point you to some new blogs and old favourites. Firstly the Stitch dictionary is still in the same place as yet it has not moved. When it does I will let everyone know.
I have set feeds to full feed as requested. I had it set to partial feed because someone was scraping the whole blog in other words pulling the feed into their blog and simply republishing the lot. If I have trouble with scrapers I will revert back to partial feeds. It’s a pain as it spoils it for everyone but at the moment you should be able to read the complete post in your reader.
The way text will display is not in my control. Unlike my old site I can’t edit this template (one of the disadvantages of having a free blog). I can change the over all template but not tinker with the details. If the text is too small for you on a Mac hold down the command key (the key with the apple logo on it) and press the plus sign. Text will get larger. I don’t know what the equivalent is on a PC does anyone know?
As I said the other day at the moment I am concentrating on getting my blogroll in order and shifting the images from the old blog to here, getting everything inot categories again but being the nosy person I am, as people have been updating and changing links of course I have not been able to resist having a look at what they have been doing … So here is a round up of what I have noticed
Ati in Norway of Ati on the crazy road has been doing some crazy quilting on an RR block.
Melissa of Honey Bee's Bliss is another crazy quilter who I really got to know through one of my classes. Its great to see her latest work online.
Cheryl is a new blogger on the block but many crazy quilters will already know her via the discussion lists so do check out her Cheryl's Chatelaine to see what she has been doing. Lately she has developed a system to stretch a crazy quilt block on a frame in order to work it – go take a look.
Sue who hales from Western Australia in From the Magpie's Nest has been contemplating her August Journal quilt.
Still waving to another sandgroper (as an ex-Fremantle girl myself) Dy of Random Applique is working with Portuguese Stem Stitch
Tenar’s Cave has also been working with Portuguese stem.
Lynn of Faffing About hasn’t been faffing, as she has a great sample of Crested Chain stitch up on her blog
I am sure many readers know Neki of A movable feast as she is too is participating in TAST and is in catch up mode.
Another TAST participant is Vivian - in stitches while there check out her fabric postcards too!
Reti of Arts & Quilts has been sketching out a layout for her next quilt. (Those that use visual journals as a work horse will find this notation interesting)
While I am on the topic of visual journals do check out Susan’s Ar of textiles as she has been using tissue, paper towels, and scrim to create imprints on watercolour paper. While there I got side tracked on to her blog that she is using to track her City and Guilds course.
Another quilter Beth of Pieces of A Quilter’s Life has featured a lovely quilt top just finished.
Brenda of Serendipity & the Art of the Quilt has been checking out the blood red moon.
As a side note check out what Jerry was looking at last night
Sewers and quilters will be interested in reading about Judith’s latest bag and quilt in Spinning yarns
Karen South has been doing some dyeing
Check out Lemon tree tales for info on Tami’s 222K Singer Featherweight and doll makers will particularly enjoy this blog.
Susan of Crazy Quilting for fun has been finding out some interesting snip bits about Singer
Lin Moon of Purple Fan I first encountered in one of my classes had me intrigued with her polymer clay cabochon cast from a carved box from Russia. She also reminded me that the end of August is here and I have not done my beaded journal project for the yet either!
On the topic of beads my heart went out to Mary Anne of Magpie's Mumblings who has recently unintentionally made bead soup.
Don’t miss the beadwork from Glaucia who lives in Portugal. Libélulas na Janela is bilingual in parts.
Carol of Threads Across the Web has been delving into family history.
Manxgirl from Ramsey Town shining by the sea! has an amusing piece about respect and motherhood
Kathryn of Threads of Desire has recently posed some thoughtful questions about culture and how people live in different countries. Pop over for an interesting read.
On the stitching front, most people also know Debra Spincic and her Design studio but don’t miss her latest project it’s a bit fishy
Romilly of Stitching with a Shimmy has just finished her piece for the Sumptuous Surface class. Take a look at the large image for some great details
Julie of Orange Rug Yarn Musings is a finisher in my Sumptuous Surfaces class
Another student working on their class piece is Jenny of Reading and stitching in IL
Corina in Holland of Patch Scraphas been playing with paper
Aurora of Foxy Art Studio has been playing with her yarn stash.
Christine of Lady Janes Journal has also added to her stash lately
Helen a Queenslander East Lynne Cottage has just gained an overlocker!
Mary over on Needle n’ Thread helps spread the word and by the way she has another video tutorial up. This one is on Rosette Chain Stitch
LouAnne of Getting to Crazy has been designing motifs for redwork
I am sure most readers know Risa from her Pretty impressive Stuff site her blog is now Rooted in Mississippi and her stuff is still pretty impressive.
If you are interested in contemporary embroidery on a quilted format do take a look at Annica’s Fabulous Threads and scroll down and see her pieces she has been working on for a quilt show in Gothenburg.
Over the next couple of weeks I will write a little round up of what has been happening in the textiles community so leave a comment if you write a post about this blog or change your blogroll I would like to offer a public thanks and link back! This is an opportunity if you are new to blogging or have a blog not yet noticed as it lets people know you are out there. If you have a blog that is textiles related I know many readers here would be interested in knowing about you. I have decided to go on a hunt out the new and highlight the old. So write a post or update your blogroll, swing back here and leave a comment. I will swing by and check out what you have been doing.
I promise I will work on the blogroll situation here soon I have just been busy moving images and setting categories to a mere 2,225 posts! By the way my stats say that this blog has 14,797 comments so don’t listen to me if I bellyache about people not talking to me it’s a fiction. Have no sympathy what so ever and ignore me. I will get the blogroll done soon and in the process hopefully discover a few new faces as a result of this little needling.
Do you think I should put my face beside these ‘community news- put a cuppa on and chat’ type entries to highlight the nature of these posts? Treating the image as an icon does signal to anyone on the page that the post is more than the usual morning link, and perhaps they had better put a cuppa on, but I do wonder if people want to see my face. What do you think should my chatty posts be highlighted with this photo?

Sharon I like the photo and I for one would like you to keep it there.
Sharon, being able to put a face on the wonderful work you do is a very welcome change. To me, it makes it all a bit more personal.
On a PC, using the Firefox browser, you can change the size of the type by holding down the Ctrl key and rolling the mouse scroller. Alternatively, both IE and Firefox give you a menu option to change text size. It's under View on both.
Thanks Sharon for the link! I just told my readers all about your great stitch info today and to drop by your new home. For that you got the Nice Matters Award (and I'm sure everyone here would agree that you're one generous lady!)

The same works in IE....Ctrl key and roll the mouse scroller.
Hi Sharon,
I enjoy periodically catching up with what's happening with your Take a Stitch Tuesday. Today I planned to do just that, and found your blog had moved! So I stuck it on my blog, just in case others don't know either.
Hope it works out well for you!
Yvette
hi Sharon--I had fun checking out all these blogs! thanks for the link to my blog, I read yours everyday and find much useful information there.
Hi Sharon, I love seeing what you look like! I think you should use your photo on all of your "grap a cuppa" posts!
Just a note to let you know I enjoy reading your blog...
I am relatively new to blogging and still finding my way around the many sites. It's a great way to keep in touch with the textile world!
I have a suggestion if you need to change the blog name "In a Second Ago". I haven't gotten to read thing much lately, but I am glad I found you while the link was still on my feed list for In a minute ago.
I'd be really upset if I couldn't find you!!! You have my favorite blog!
Sharon, I'm so glad you posted your pic...you are as lovely on the outside as you are inside! And thank you for taking the time that you do with your sharing of information. Your generosity is amazing, and my heart is with you with all this info-moving and transferring and frustration. A HUGE Texas thanks to you!!
And yes, I think the "chatty" posts should be highlighted... When you say 'grab a cuppa and read on', the icon/pic makes it more like a face-to-face personal chat/imparting-of-info, and thus allows one to relax and pay close attention.
Yes, keep the photo, and thanks for mentioning my blog.
Hi Sharon - fixed the blog roll and posted about my latest CQ work; along with a plug for your tour.
Thanks for mentioning my blog! I very much enjoy the blog tours and I think using your face as an icon for them is a good idea, as Sarah says it makes it more like a personal chat.

Just in case you're not aware, you can hit alt-V when you're writing your post in WP and it gives you additional options for changing text etc. I have to admit, that's the only thing I really miss from my old Blogger blog, the fact that I can jump in and really personalise my template :( I love WP for other features, though - much easier to post overall! I hope you continue to enjoy your new 'home' :) Your blog is always a pleasure to read :)
Sharon, I love that you have your photo on your blog so prominently and so... big breath, I added a photo to mine too. Blogger was misbehaving at the time, so it's a bit bigger than I would have liked ! But the camera doesn't lie does it, so that's me in all my glory! Peek if you dare,
Hooroo, Christine

Sharon, forgot to say that I like the idea of the "grab a cuppa" posts featuring your photo, it's a great reminder of who is talking with us, and I do think of your posts as friendly chats. I'm SO pleased to have someone so knowledgeable to talk textiles with.
Hooroo again, Christine.
Hi Sharon, I like the photo, it flags the chatty blogs. Thanks for mentioning my blog. It is usually about embroidery, but I wanted to talk about my lovely Nan the day you visited.

Hi Sharon, thanks for mentioning my blog. I'm new at it and still learning how to make it better. I really enjoy reading your blog and surf through all these links. So many beautiful works to see!
And keep the photo!
Hugs from Brazil
It is nice to see who you are chatting with...so I am all for the picture on the chatty posts!
Hi Sharon, I have updated my link to your blog...and I do love the photo...annie
Thank you Sharon, for visiting my blog, and yes, please use this great photo for ‘community news- put a cuppa on and chat’ posts. I got a lot of visits just because you mentioned my blog, even if I do not have time for TAST, thank you again!
I am pleased everyone seems to like the photo and see it as a personal touch rather than a huge ego. So it will stay!
Its also great to know that people are following links and discovering blogs they might not know about.
