Take a Stitch Tuesday Tuesday has come around fast this week! I had hoped to do a round up of everyone still stitching but have not managed to do it but I will I promise! Once again I am going to ask those who are still participating in TAST to leave a comment. Since my stats reveal that half my visits are still coming from my old blog I guess many people only swing by every few weeks. Many people are also stitching along a few stitches at a time then life gets in the way and they drop it for a while then pick it up again. Thats OK too just let us know. So it does not hurt to put the call out again.
Even if you are a little behind if you are still participating in TAST leave a comment and your URL. I plan to write a round up of who is still active and want to make sure I catch everyone so this is the second call.
With that little bit of house keeping out of the way this week the stitch for the Take a Stitch Tuesday Challenge is A stitch called Reversed Buttonhole Bar. Like last week it is another stitch which can create a textured braid like stitch. Reversed Buttonhole Bar however is worked on a foundation row of buttonhole stitch. This stitch is also known as Buttonhole with extra line.
To work Reversed Buttonhole Bar
Commence this stitch by creating a foundation row of buttonhole stitches spaced evenly apart.
In the sample I have illustrated these with the aqua thread.
Turn your work so that the base of the buttonhole is at the top.
Work from right to left. Bring your needle out on the right of the first buttonhole ladder.
Tuck the needle under the bar and wrap the thread under the needle like you would in buttonhole.
Pull the needle through so that the thread forms a loop around the bar
Note that you are not stitching through the fabric. You are just looping the thread around the bar.
I have changed the colour of my threads so that you can see clearly how the stitch is worked.
Move to the next bar and create the second loop the same way as you did the first. Continue along the band until you have reached the end.
Variations
All written references to this stitch I have leave it at that. However you can increase the number of lines to produce a thick braid like stitch.
This stitch is also very effective worked in a circle. Two varieties are illustrated here. The first has the foundation buttonhole arms pointing outwards and the second points inwards.
Since the foundation of this stitch is buttonhole it will follow a curve well and you can vary the direction and height of the buttonhole arms to create even more interesting effects. This is where all those experiments with buttonhole come in handy.
This stitch looks particularly good in a thread that has a firm twist like perle 5 but the top looping stitches can be done in fine ribbons and textured threads too!
I hope you enjoy experimenting with this stitch. That’s it for this week. Remember to swing by and leave a comment preferably on this page, so that people can follow the link and see what you have done. There is a Take a stitch Tuesday flickr group which you can browse.

I think this is a very "pretty" variation of buttonhole, Sharon! I like the two circles the best - very nice!
I'm still working the stitches. I may be a bit slow but I'm hanging in there and learning bunches. This week's stitch looks like one I can do easily; I hope to catch up a bit if so.
hallo, Sharon, visito regolarmente il tuo blog e ogni volta trovo qualcosa che mi entusiasma.
così ogni tanto devo proprio lasciarti un saluto per ringraziarti per il tuo lavoro. ciao matilda
I'm still doing it but very very behind!

You're a very bad influence Sharon B., LOL. I've updated my blog with week 39 of TAST. Should be sewing for clients, but you have to be in the mood, don't you. Enjoyed stitching, will try to keep going now I'm back in the groove.
Hooroo,

I posted my reversed buttonhole bar, rice stitch, and boss stitch samples on my http://blog.orangerugyarn.com///index.php/musings/2007/09/25/rice_stitch_square_boss_stitch_and_rever_39" rel="nofollow">blog tonight. I've also been busily catching up on TAST, I am now up to date for the second half of the year! (I'm still missing 7 samples from the first half of the year and I have 4 samples from the first half of the year that I stitched but never posted.) My goal is to be completely caught up by the time Developing a Personal Library of Stitches starts. I'm really enjoying catching up. I think that for me, picking colors and starting a TAST sampler is a limitation that is making this more fun. Funny how that works sometimes!
Sharon, you can count me in, although I'm 10 weeks behind...
all my TAST stitching, which I have enjoyed so much, can be seen here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/78898163@N00/sets/72157602147119416/

I have only just come across this - a bit slow on the uptake! - but I would like to have a go.
Blog updated with this and some older stitches too!

I'm stitching along but I don't have a blog or a digital camera to photograph my work. There are only two stitches I haven't completed: knotted cretan and shisha. I hope to get to both of them before the end of the year.
TAST 38 & 39 are up.
I'm very behind, and taking a break to do a couple of other things but fully intend to get back to it asap.
I enjoy it very much and even though I am not doing my own samplers at the moment, a happy part of my day is spent viewing all the TAST blogs on my blog feed. Thanks everyone.

Sharon I discovered your site a few months ago and have caught up with all the stitches. I regularly do them (weekly) and appreciate the effort you put in.

I yhought I left a comment last week but perhaps I only thought what I was going to say, I do that sometimes!!! Still following with interest. Look forward to some from your wonderful find.
I'm still participating... albeit very non-visibly at the moment. I'm finishing up several projects, and will get back to the crazy quilt photo frame wedding gift that is going to use only TAST stitches when I'm caught up.

Hi Sharon!
I'm still stitching and enjoying it very much. I started a bit later, in the end of March, but made all the stitches from the start. I try to find a right place for every stitch on some bag or hat. I didn't even know how many possibilities there is to use embroidery as embellishment on these everyday things! So thank You again, and I'll definitely follow Your challenge till the end of the year!
Here are the last three week's stitches, and a little overview of the objects made earlier:

and in the group pool too.
I liked the last stitch very much. I wondered if these stitches were for hardanger or drawn thread work ?
Hi Sharon. I have posted this week's stitch to my blog. I will try to use this one more often in my work as it is easy and looks very good, especially with ribbon.

Hi Sharon, I entered this one in my blog but called it something a bit different, had a senior moment.
Nice stitch and I liked it. On my blog

I am still participating in tast, although I don't have much time these days. I also liked your idea about collecting links to tutorials, so I wrote a small one. It is about using corn cop leaves for embroidery. Also, my leaf has reversed buttonhole bar on it. I guess I'm guilty of writing quick makeshift tutorials in the past, but they were meant to show my own progress, not for teaching, because I'm not qualified for that at all. But this time I really tried to put some effort in it. it is here:

I'm still hanging in there Sharon! Learning so much. Anything with buttonhole is fun .... and the reversed buttonhole bar was most enjoyable. I think I will be using this one more than some of the others we've done. You can see my sample here:
