For the Love of Stitching Band Sampler
This next section I do not know how to divide into 'bands ' as it is fairly freeform and more of it will appear tomorrow.
Stitches:
This band illustrates experiments with long and short stitch, buttonhole wheel, chain stitch, twisted chain stitch and knotted Creten

Thread:
Long and short stitch and the buttonhole wheel was worked in a hand dyed superfine merino wool that I purchased from a weavers supplier
Twisted chain stitch and knotted Creten were worked in a hand dyed cotton and silk the same weight and thickness as perle 5 DMC and hand dyed cotton
All threads are hand dyed by me.
Fabric:
This section of the sampler is a dress linen which is not quite an even weave, hand painted with procion cold water dyes.
Dyes:
Procion cold water dyes for the cotton, wool and silk threads
Size:
All samples are 15 cm (6 inches) wide and stitched together in one long band sampler.
The back story
If this is your first visit, I am in the process of documenting a band sampler, band by band, which is actually a series of samplers worked over a number years and now measures over 35 feet long. All bands are hand embroidered as hand stitching is a fascinating skill to develop. For the history of the piece read my introductory post
If you are looking for a stitch guide to hand embroidery stitches, instructions are in my stitch dictionary
If you are enjoying these posts you may like to take one of my online classes.
Develop a Personal Library of Stitches will start on March 4, 2009. This class explores stitches in great detail.
Encrusted Crazy Quilting will start on Feb 25th.
Visit the Classes and workshops section of this site for more information. If you have not taken a class online before this is How classes work
On another note:
Anyone working a band sampler or stitching along please leave a comment with a link to your blog so people can see. Even if you just take a stitch or two I would love to see it and I am sure others will too.

Sharon-could you tell me how to subscribe to the Pin Tangle RSS.
A friend is letting me know when you have posted something but it would be so much easier if I could do it myself. When I click on the Pin Tangle RSS in the rifht hand side of this blog page, all I get is a pay with all kinds of jibberish. If you could help, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Anita amester@austin.rr.com
Hi Anita
The RSS feeds are all in the side bar under subscribe - just choose the Pin Tangle one for the regular posts
I hope this answers your question
This looks fantastic, I love the free form approach you've taken here.
