What is Ribbon Floss?

Ribbon Floss an interesting thread as it looks like a small thin ribbon of silk but is actually made of rayon. It has a structure which means it is pliable, and less likely to twist.

Ribbon Floss easy to use and stitch with, because the ribbon is braided rather than woven.

It is usually advised that you use it on 14-18 count canvas but I have used it on 20-26 count even weave fabrics and in crazy quilting too. If you have never tried it you should experiment with it at least once.

If you are looking for it you will find it on spools rather than skeins. You can find the range on the YLI site.

I am not affiliated in any way with YLI just happily use the stuff!

This post is in response to a question received about the threads used in my For the Love of Stitching band sampler.

While on the topic of hand embroidery check out what Elizabeth of Quieter Moments has been doing with Chicken Scratch  also take a look at Helen Conway's sampler on From down the well

On another note entirely:

I am deleting all my old posts on my old blog so if you have not updated your bookmarks please do.

Why am I doing this? It is good blogging practice.  If a site is duplicated, which while the old blog exists this blog is, Google thinks the youngest site has stolen content so it is penalised. I don't want that to happen.  So I am removing all the old blog. All the old blog are in the archives section of this site so nothing is lost.

I love ribbon floss. My favourite trick is to cut off a length, tie a knot is one end, pull a thread from the other end, and it ruches. great in seeweed, couched down with a couple of beads.

Also weaves beautifully in Herringbone etc.
