CQ Detail 96

Stitches:

This seam is first embellished with a striped yellow ribbon. I have added embroidery to each side of the ribbon. On the top side I have worked a row of laced  herringbone stitch. The bottom row is a pattern of detached chain stitch and  straight stitches. In the middle of the detached chain stitch (if you look closely enough there is a small yellow seed bead. These also have a stripe!

Thread:

Hand dyed perle thread #5, and #8, a hand dyed mercerised cotton and a hand dyed silk.

Placement on block:

On block 14 this seam sits between piece 5 and pieces 4,1,2, and 3

Ribbon:

This ribbon is a modern synthetic ribbon recieved in a swap.

Dyes:

Procion cold water dyes for the cotton and silk threads

Beads:

Seed beads

The back story:

If you have landed here as part of a search engine result this is a series documenting each seam and embellishment on the quilt blocks in my crazy quilt called “I dropped the Button box”. Every second day, on this blog I discuss part of a block and publish details on how it was created.

Information about this series of articles and the quilt can be found here and all articles in the series are categorised under Crazy Quilt details

For a stitch guide to hand embroidery stitches, instructions can be found in my stitch dictionary

Develop your embroidery skills with classes online with me

For anyone interested in taking a class with me Personal Library of Stitches is due to start October 6th.

For those thinking about taking this class the course is structured in such a way that each week I take an aspect of design and apply it to stitches. This means that the content of the course is very different from what is already published in my blog.

Follow the links to read class descriptions and I have described  how classes work if you have not taken an online class before.
