Janice Lowry

At the age of 11 Janice Lowry started keeping a diary and over the next 50 years her journals became increasingly visual. In 2007, the 126 volumes was accepted into the Smithsonian Institution’s permanent collection. Upon hearing that her journals would be accepted into the collect she declared “I’ll never die, I’ll live forever!”

This video is a brief interview with Janice Lowry which examines her assemblages. In it Janice speaks about her studio and her journals

Janice Lowry died in September this year at 63

This article Smithsonian drawn to O.C. artist’s life features an interview with Janice Lowry and more photos of the journals and her art work.

Janice’s Blog is actually written by Janice’s husband Jon. Its a very moving tribute to a fantastic woman.

Thank you for this post Sharon. It went right into my heart. Definitely would have love her as a friend. I was amazed the "shadow boxes" and diary/journal keeping Though my story is different the fact that we lived what I feel parallel lives just amazes me. I am inspired to continue on.

Thanks again for all you do that inspires so many!

As ever,
~Kate
