CQ Detail 7

The first detail on block is a simple treatment of Ric rac braid.

Stitches:

On the peaks of the ric rac  Straight stitches are added. It is only when I photographed this that I realised I had 3 straight stitches on one side of the braid and 5 on the other! Perhaps I did it deliberately - perhaps not I can not remember.

Thread:

Hand dyed rayon the same thickness as perle thread 8 and a second fine rayon thread.

Placement:

This seam is between piece 3  and piece 7. You can find a diagram for block 2 here

Foundation Fabrics

The fabrics used in this block were discussed when I introduced block 2

Type of lace, braid or trim

As mentioned above this is ric rac but unlike the traditional braid it has a metallic thread woven through it. I found it at a craft fair.

Dyes

Procion cold water dyes for rayon thread

The back story

This is a crazy quilt block which is part of my “I dropped the Button box” quilt. I am documenting this crazy quilt detail by detail, and posting about it on this blog every second day. You will find information about this series of articles and the quilt here.

If you are looking for the series you will find it under the category of Crazy Quilt  details.

Classes

I also offer a class which covers not only technique but design issues associated with this style of quilting. Encrusted Crazy Quilting will start on Feb 25th 2009.

If you have not taken a class online before  this is How classes work
