For the Love of Stitching Sampler - Band 30

Stitches:

This is a small cluster of bands worked together so closely that really they create a block. They are all basic stitches. The first row is band illustrates  threaded running stitch, which is followed by an example of  running stitch

The third line is  closed feather stitch, and the last line of stitching is whipped chain stitch.

Thread:

All stitches in this section of the band sampler are worked in hand dyed cotton.

Fabric:

This section of the sampler is worked on tea towel linen which is not quite an even weave.

Dyes:

Procion cold water dyes for the cotton thread

Size:

All samples are 15 cm (6 inches) wide and stitched together in one long band sampler.

The sampler is currently 44 ft 5 inches or 533 inches (1353.83 centimetres) or 14.8 yards  (13.53 metres) long and still being added to.

Date:

This section of the sampler is dated 1996 - Jan 1998

The back story

If a search engine has landed you on this page and this is your first visit to my site, I am in the process of documenting a hand embroidered band sampler, band by band, which is actually a series of samplers worked over a number years and now measures over 44 feet long. All bands are hand embroidered  and for the history of the piece read my introductory post  about it

On Another Note

If you are thinking of working a sampler I have answered a few questions about width and fabric choice.  You may like to take Develop a Personal Library of Stitches as it would be very applicable and will start on March 4, 2009. If you have not taken a class online before  this is How classes work

Remember if you looking for a stitch guide to hand embroidery stitches, instructions can be found in my stitch dictionary
