Introducing block 4 of I dropped the button box

I am up to documenting the fourth block (placed on this grid )

I think people will enjoy this block even thought it is in the I dropped the Button Box gallery, I hope people will enjoy seeing it again in more detail.

Fabric content:

Piece 1: Is a cotton found in a soft furnishings fabric swatch book

Piece 2: Is a damask  found in a soft furnishings fabric swatch book

Piece 3: Silk

Piece 4: Polyester from a garment

Piece 5: Cotton

Piece 6: Silk

Piece 7: Polyester from a garment

Item Count:

This quilt is actually a Y2K quilt as it is made up of 2001 different elements. My definition of an element was either a different fabric, lace, braid, charm, buttons or ribbon. The quilt  was  so named because I was a bit short on the number and my button collection came to the rescue. I am fairly sure there are not repeated fabrics, trims, lace or buttons. That is what I aimed for anyway!

I admit to  enjoying the process of documenting this quilt as it prompts me to remember how much I enjoyed making it. I think it was the ‘all pieces different’ aspect that was a fun challenge for me. I did not want it to look a pile messy glitzy stuff! As a result I really enjoyed the challenge of pulling it into some sort of control. Anyway  back to the count

Fabric: 7

Braid: 2

Lace: 1

Buttons: 8

Total items on block: 18

Total tally on Quilt so far 82

If a search engine has just landed you on this page, this is a crazy quilt block which is part of a crazy quilt I made called  “I dropped the Button box”. Every second day I publish a little more about it as I am documenting this quilt, block by block, detail by detail. You will find information about this series of articles and the quilt here.

If you are looking for the whole series you will find it under the category of Crazy Quilt  details.

Hello Sharon, Can you tell me from where you got the biggest button on block 4 please? It is under the words "Piece 5". I ask because I have some like that that came from my mother. She had them in her button jar for as long as I can remember! Thanks.

Hi Ruth I got them at a swap meet ie a garge sale. they were in an old tin and are definitely the real thing. I think they are probably from the fourties
