For the Love of Stitching Sampler - Band 44 and 45

I feel band 45 is so pedestrian that I have decided to write up today as it does not really stand on its own.

Band 44

This band is made up of  back stitch,  detached chain stitch and  fly stitch.

Thread:

A hand dyed mercerised cotton which is about the same weight as perle 8.

Band 45

This band is chain stitch.

Thread:

A hand dyed cotton (crochet thread)

Fabric:

This section of the sampler is worked on tea towel linen which is not quite an even weave.

Dyes:

Procion cold water dyes for cotton threads.

Size:

All samples are 15 cm (6 inches) wide and stitched together in one long band sampler.

The sampler is currently 44 ft 5 inches or 533 inches (1353.83 centimetres) or 14.8 yards  (13.53 metres) long and still being added to.

Date:

This section of the sampler is dated 1996 - Jan 1998

The back story

I am in the process of documenting a hand embroidered band sampler, band by band, which now measures over 44 feet long and is still growing. For more of the back story of the piece read my introductory post  about it

All posts in the series are in the category For the Love of Stitching band sampler

On Another Note

If you are thinking of working a sampler I have answered a few questions about width and fabric choice and if you looking for a stitch guide to hand embroidery stitches, instructions can be found in my stitch dictionary

Sharon,
Band 44 is not pedestrian. It is lovely. Band 45 is a tad ordinary however, but still a very useful stitch.

Yes Ruth you are right I meant to say it was band 45 that was ordinary - and have corrected it.

Pedestrian-schmadestrian. Sometimes the eye needs a break from all the candy, and have a wee bit o' something to rest on. Evenly-done chain stitch in a pretty handy-dyed thread fills the bill. Lovely. :-)

I love all the bands, especially the blue ones and No 44. It is subtle and delicate.
