CQ Detail 49

Stitches:

This detail at first looks a little complex. The seam is embellished with a line of feathered up and down stitch. This has been threaded with a textured bubbly yarn. At the end of the spikes of the up and down stitch I have used    bullion knots. They have a high number of wraps (probably about 25)  so they form little circles. From these I have used 3 straight stitches on the back one to seat them.

Thread:

Hand dyed perle thread #5 for the feathered up and down stitch and, and it was threaded with a highly textured knitting yarn.

Hand dyed perle thread #8 for the bullion knots.

I used 2 strands of cotton floss and one of a metallic blending thread in the straight stitches.

Placement and Foundation Fabric:

This seam is between pieces 4, 3, and 6 and piece 7. You will find the diagram in the article I wrote when I introduced block 7 In the same article I also talked about the foundation fabrics I used.

Dyes:

Procion cold water dyes for the cotton threads

This crazy quilt block is part of my “I dropped the Button box” quilt. I am documenting this crazy quilt detail by detail, every second day. You will find information about this series of articles and the quilt here  and all articles in the series are categorised under Crazy Quilt  details

I can't think of a more elegant incentive to master bullions! This is so exquisite.
