Introducing block 26 on the "I dropped the button box" quilt

Time to introduce block 26! That means we are now just over one quarter of the way through documenting this quilt as there are 100 blocks in the quilt. I hope readers are still enjoying this process. 

In this block you will see lots of fabrics that are not often used in crazy quilting. I used them deliberately because someone once told me I should only use good material s like lace and brocade etc. Since I have an overflow of cheap nasty costuming fabrics I used those simply because that is what is at hand and I felt it was actually staying true to the tradition. Other stuff on the block like the gold ric rac that runs along the edge of seam 7 is fairly crass and hideous but it was a challenge to make it work that I enjoyed. So this block is really a case of saying I can use what I want. 

Fabric content:

Piece 1: Synthetic satin 

Piece 2: Metallic after five dress (found in a second hand shop) 

Piece 3: Elastic stretch lace (used in a costume but made to be used in underwear) 

Piece 4: Lycra with a silver paint 

Piece 5: Nylon stretch lace over cotton  

Piece 6: Recycled Chinese brocade

Piece 7: Metallic after five dress fabric

Piece 8: Wide velvet ribbon over lycra 

Item Count: 

This quilt is a Y2K quilt which is made up of 2001 different elements. By element I mean either a different fabric, lace, braid, charm, buttons or ribbon. This count is an ongoing count of items and pieces in the quilt blocks documented so far.

Fabric: 8

Lace, braid and ribbon: 4

Buttons: 9

Total items on this block: 21

Total tally of items on the quilt so far 512

When I started the series about each detail on the “I dropped the button box” quilt, I numbered the blocks on this grid. The same post shows the whole quilt too.

It's a beautiful block. The colors are just gorgeous. The pink lace bit is a gem. Not too bad for throwing a bunch of junky fabrics together. Of course, I never would have known!
