TAST 2010 week 9 Raised herringbone band
Hi all hope everyone enjoyed last week's stitch. Who needs a catchup/rest week for TAST? I have noticed lots of posts and even had the odd message saying ‘sorry but life is busy’ no need to say sorry, but if people feel a little pressured and pressure means no fun we can always have a catch up week at week 10. Stitching is for fun not a to do list.
On another note could I ask a favour, when you post your challenge piece on your blog please link back here. Lots of people find out about the challenge by seeing a piece on a persons blog but they don't necessarily ask about it. This is particularly so if they are a beginner and are shy of comments. Please link then they can click and find out about the challenge.
I will put it to the vote leave a comment and let me know if you want a catch week say so.
Ok on with this weeks stitch. I hope people enjoy this weeks stitch. Raised Herringbone Band is relatively simple and people should not have trouble with it.
It is interesting to work this stitch in different threads. I did a sample with a foundation of gold thread which looked great but I found it impossible to photograph!
The width of the band can change you can even curve the band and it is still very effective.
How to work Raised Herringbone Band
The sample has the foundation row worked in perle 8, the herringbone worked in stranded floss and it is laced with chenille

First lay down a band of Satin stitch. Satin stitch is in my stitch dictionary if you need to know how to work it.

Next work a line of herringbone stitch which is also in my stitch dictionary if you need to know how to work it. When working make sure this is a little loose as lacing will tighten the stitches

Lace the herringbone foundation stitches as shown in the illustration.
Bring the needle out at the base of the row.

Thread the needle under the herringbone in an upward direction then move across the crossed bars of the herringbone turn the needle and thread in an downward direction.
Repeat this motion along the line.

How to join in.
Work an example of the stitch. Experiment a bit, photograph it, and put it on your flickr site or write about it on your blog. Please remember to link back to here so others can find the challenge too

Hi Sharon,
I don't need a catch up week as I am only doing one row of the stitch on my band sampler. I can manage that each week and know I will be able to catch up when I go away for several weeks.
I, for one, could definitely use a catch up week (or 2!) as I've had a bunch of orders in my shop to work on and, thus, no time for extra curricular stitching. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one, actually!
A catch up week is probably a good idea - it may not make much of a difference for me as my life is insane right now and probably will continue to be so for at least another 6-8 months. I'm getting in the stitches that I can when I can and am really enjoying participating when I get a chance.
I will remember to link back when I do get a chance to post to my blog, though. :)
I would love a catch up week. I went away for a few weeks and have got way behind.

I am ok so far. I look forward to each week new stitch.
Hi Sharon - I would appreciate the week's break...I have had such a frenetic few weeks which include a death in the family and I am struggling to regain motivation on a few fronts. I am keeping up with stitching my 'band' but have not got around to experimenting and stretching a stitch for ages.
I am okay either way. I am a couple weeks behind right now due to other projects being more demanding, but those are almost done. I will catch up quick enough with or without a catch up week once this week is over.
hi Sharon,
I already had a long break....now here to complete this challenge....i am loving the whole experience of exploring new stitches

Hi Sharon,
For me a catch up week is not necessary. I like the rhythm and I look forward to the new stitch each Monday night around 10 o'clock West European time.
I was ready for this raised herringbone band, so I don't need a catch up week. Tuesdays are a lot of fun, I enjoy learning a new stitch each week!
Hello Sharon, I'll be happy to go with the majority vote for a catchup week. I'm going to like this week's challenge. I LOVE band stitches............
It's a great post on Textile Fabrics herringbone desing. I liked you blog........
Hope i will be ur regular reader.
I don't feel I need a catch up week, if I need to catch up I will fit it when I can like this week. I have posted weeks 5 to 9 today, first time I've actually completed the challenge on the day! Mind you I only do a little sample of each.
Hmm, to catch up or not to catch up. I wouldn't mind a catch up week, because I missed a couple of stitches while on vacation. But knowing me, I might not make good use of it and might instead lose my momentum. So, count me as firmly, unequivocally On the Fence!
Hi Sharon, I have posted this weeks samples, left links to here and the Pool and though I love finding a new stitch each Tuesday am happy to go with any result from the comments about a catch up.

I've posted the Raised Herringbone Band to my blog http://focus-on-fiber.blogspot.com I don't need a catch up week, but then I have more time to stitch than others.

I had given a trial of this stitch. I enjoyed doing it. Have a look at my blog and flicker group.http://viji-crafts.blogspot.com/2010/04/raised-herringbone-band.html
Hi Sharon, surprisingly enough, I would not need a catch up week (at least at the moment). Here is my raised herringbone band: http://textileexplorations.blogspot.com/2010/04/tast2-raised-herringbone-band.html
Hi Sharon, Thanks for this interesting stitch. I have posted it on my blog at http://shirleystwistedthreads.blogspot.com/
I think I have finally worked out how to link back to here from my blog. Hope so anyway.
I could do with a catch up week in a couple of weeks as I am going away for 2 weeks, but whatever the majority feel is ok by me.
Either way is OK with me, I love to see the stitches right on Tuesdays and normally think about my choice during the week and then have the time in the week-end to give them a try. Thank you for the challenges!

I havent done this one yet but on my blog are week 7 and 8 I did manage to do them, although they are very small while I was in Queensland. Hope to get this one done before Tuesday.
I have already given my opinion, but now I have finished my sampler in raised herringbone band. It became a cake in sweet colours. A picture of my work is posted in the Flickr-group and on my blog ( http://borduurblog.blogspot.com )
I finished the sampler for this stitch. The details are on my blog:

I think I need catch up week because I wish to work the stitches on some small projects but it is also ok if no catch up week.
Tahnk you

I am late to put my photos in - the raised herringbone band and another rope stitch example.. . I was in the mountains with a very poor internet connection. The cloud filling will come a little later. -
I am glad that your stitches, Sharon, will continue every week. I am eagerly awaiting them.
